The initstate() function handles restarting of random-number generator. One of the argument to initstate() function is size of the state array. The larger the state array, the more random the numbers. According to LSB, values for the amount of state information are 8, 32, 64, 128, and 256 bytes and if initstate() is called with size less than 8, it shall return NULL. But on the target machine the function doesn't return NULL when called with size less than 8.
